She isn't going back

Watch our “First Look” Teaser for Cara!

Synopsis

A history of abuse, a room mate who is coming apart, a failing career in online sex work, a father who can’t communicate and a mother who reaches out but says nothing. Cara’s misery is wrapped up in the fear that her doctors are planning on sending her back to Sunnyside. An institution she believes allowed her to be horribly abused.

Cara has been putting together a plan, a plan to make sure she doesn’t find herself institutionalised once again. A chance to break free of the chains binding her. Cara uses her broadcasts to fund her and viewers to help make her plan a reality at a terrible cost.

Cara represents a frank and brutal look at mental health, paranoia, sex work and shocking violence. A brooding and atmospheric film which will leave no viewer untouched.

‘Cara’ is the debut feature film from writer/director Hayden Hewitt and Black Octopus Productions.

Shot in Manchester in 2023 on location and at Black Octopus Studio Cara is pitch-black psychological horror film which is completely uncompromising in its bleak, sometimes surreal and shockingly violent, approach.
